Job Description

POSITION MANDATE Designs elements of power systems, digital applications, or controls. Oversees all elements of a project from start to finish. Investigate and solves intermediate-advanced technical problems. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES Technical * Initiates and executes electrical power systems studies & calculations such as system modelling, load flow studies, device protection & coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis. * Prepares technical reports, client correspondence and presentations. * Prepares detailed specifications and contract documents for: * Procurement of major electrical equipment * Construction document engineering instruction packages. Project Management * Prepares/reviews drawings and parts lists for client review/construction, paying attention to scope, presentation, applicable standards, and technical accuracy. * Adjusts project workplans where required, in consultation with customers. * Manages inter-departmental communications and relationships in support of specific project needs. * Addresses concerns and issues as they arise. * Provides project related direction and support as needed. Oversight * Ensures proper document control and handling procedures are followed. * Conducts review of technical literature and procedural documents. Sales and Customer Relations * Assists customers in scoping their needs and works to reach agreement to conduct the work. * Ensures good collaboration with other departments to meet customer and project needs. * Maintains strong relationships with existing customers, supports them in exploring options for additional services and support. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE The position requires an undergraduate degree in Engineering or Science & Engineering as well as a current and valid Professional Engineer designation. A minimum 8-10 years of engineering experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. ACCOUNTABILITIES * Provides engineering deliverables (e.g. drawings, technical reports) internally and externally. Deliverables meet quality and timeline expectations. * Consistently sells and up-sells work and contracts to existing customers. * Maintains profitable and long-term relations with customers. * Projects are planned and executed to achieve strong project margins. * The quality of work delivered meets expectations * Issues of concern or importance are communicated to the Supervisor or Manager in a timely manner * Compliance with established engineering standards and practices, policies, procedures and relevant legislation and regulations. JOB SCOPE Possesses an identifiable professional career track (e.g. engineering, instrumentation, electrical) or knowledge in a unique field or function. Utilizes specific education and experience to support assigned elements of services, demonstrating the required professional and technical skills expected for assigned level of experience. Focuses on building credibility and a reputation for good professional work. Requires some guidance and direction but is expected to assume responsibility for a definable piece of work and take on leadership roles and/or responsibilities for tasks or projects. Stamps drawings and documents in their scope of practice. EFFORT Work is high volume, requiring the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and to deal with competing deadlines. Multi-tasking is the norm. The incumbent is responsible to ensure day to day work is completed accurately, and information provided to others is correct. Working relationships that support collaboration and problem solving are essential for success in this position. Demonstrates good judgment when addressing situations where the problem is clear but the solution is not. Though not typically assigned direct supervisory or project management roles, provides guidance or work direction to individuals on projects or parts of projects, including assigning work to others and monitoring to ensure that established goals are achieved. Provides feedback and guidance as required, referring recurring professional or behavioral issues to the Team Lead or Supervisor.
