We operate in the Aerospace, Ground Transportation and Energy sectors.
A typical day?
* The Electrical Technician will be responsible for providing rail equipment maintenance services for the Metrolinx’s Legacy Fleet Maintenance operations.
* This individual will collaborate with the management team, customers, suppliers, partners and involved stakeholders.
* Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, will be responsible for performing various maintenance tasks on rail coaches, cab cars, locomotives and DMU’s.
* Confirm that all HSE policies, processes and procedures are being complied
* Responsible for troubleshooting, analysis, fault detection and repair of coach and locomotive electrical systems, sub-systems, and components
* Perform modifications from drawings, prints or electrical systems on coaches and locomotives as assigned
* Test and download event recorder on laptop computer. Megger reading for insulation test
* Locomotive, coach, and cab car preventive maintenance
* Change out 575-volt receptacles and permanent wiring within the coach or locomotive
* Clean traction motors, repair and renew brushes as needed. Wash batteries, check and add electrolyte level, check, and record specific gravity and charge as necessary. Check and clean all relays, magnetic contactors, temperature sensors, resistors, rectifiers, diodes
* Inspect and clean AR15 traction alternator and high voltage gear
* Perform load test on HEP and main engine when attached to a load box. Check operation of all HEP shut down protective devices. Disconnect and connect HEP Engine cables and traction motor cables
* Megger reading for insulation test
* Check and repair evaporator and condenser motors
* Troubleshoot and repair LVPS system, batteries and charging system
* Wayside power application and removal
* Comply with the company’s applicable policies and procedures as well as human resources’ guidelines and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Qualifications:
* 1 – 2 years experience working in a rail maintenance environment or equivalent type industry. Rail locomotive and passenger coach experience and knowledge is an asset
* Capable of using computers and computer control systems
* Skilled in troubleshooting techniques and a complete understanding of electrical testing principles. Familiarity with AC and DC power and control systems and HVAC systems
* Capable of reading and understand drawings, blueprints, manuals, and other specifications. Good communication skills
* Experience using power and hand tools
* Must possess a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s license
* Grade 12 or equivalent or a combination of education and work experience. Electrical diploma from an accredited technical school or equivalent experience
* Candidates will be required to show proof of skills. A test of skills will be required
