RESPONSIBILITIES
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Performs technical investigation and analysis of failures and other technical problems related to both Rolling Stock Fleet and Railway Infrastructure Assets. Explores options and makes recommendations on alternative parts, repairs or procedures. Performs trend and cost benefit analyses.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Investigates part, system and sub-system failures and other technical procedural problems encountered in both Railway Infrastructure Assets and Rolling Stock Fleet, including assessment of the parts involved, in-depth analysis of the electrical performance and condition of traction power substations, station power distribution, fleet vehicles, and definition and coordination of tests to be conducted internally or by manufacturers or consulting engineers.
Analyzes the results of the investigation to identify the cause of problems and explores various options to resolve problems; researches alternative equipment/supplies; prepares cost-benefit analysis of repairs, replacement, etc. and recommends the best alternative to Engineers.
In conjunction with Engineers, develops electrical design specifications for special parts and equipment and tests prototypes.
Analyzes maintenance procedures and identifies areas to modify based on failures, testing, and to conform to applicable industry standards. Recommends modifications to Engineers.
Conducts qualitative analyses of electrical vendors and consultants to assess their qualifications for supplying services, parts and equipment required; develops and communicates specifications to vendors and within established budget, approves the supplier and the purchase of specific parts/equipment.
Audits and analyzes efficiencies and effectiveness of inspections.
Forecasts electrical maintenance requirements and develops new or revised maintenance schedules.
Investigates perceived problems such as discrepancies in parts shipments and resolves concerns.
Coordinates Engineering Asset’s electrical tests with other maintenance departments.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology diploma, qualified for registration with Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC (ASTTBC); five (5) years’ experience preferably in transportation, in technical analysis of parts and system performance or in a relevant Engineering field in designing, commissioning, and maintaining of electrical equipment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Working knowledge of traction power substations, rail transit vehicles, and automatic train control.
Working knowledge of power distribution equipment, industrial electronics, and PLC.
Working knowledge of electrical and safety standards such as Canadian Electrical code, CSA Z462, and ANSI/NETA MTS is an asset.
Solid ability to develop and design concepts and draft CAD drawings for equipment adaptations is required
Solid written and verbal communication skills to write and deliver well-prepared comments, procedures, reports and presentations
Demonstrated computer skills, proficiency in Excel and database
Solid interpersonal and analytical skills
OTHER INFORMATION
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.
WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week.
RATE OF PAY
Salary $81,447 - $101,809 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
