Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Electrician Supervisor, the Electrical Apprentice person is responsible to troubleshoot, calibrate, install, and modify electrical/electronic controls for all production machinery and building equipment. the training of a Red Seal Electrician. Specifically:
* Calibrate, install, and modify electrical/electronic controls for all production machinery and building equipment.
* Troubleshoot AC/DC motors and speed controls.
* Maintain inventory for electrical/electronic parts and components.
* Be aware of all safety regulations.
* Ensure that the necessary paperwork such as daily work timesheets and call back reports are complete and accurate.
* Coordinate his/her efforts with other trades and be able to carry out some basic functions of these trades.
* Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production machinery.
* Work during the scheduled shutdown and overtime to complete tasks, including call‑ins. Report for duty within a reasonable time limit when there is a call back.
* Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication within the department and Company. Interact with all levels of the operation in support of Winpak’s TQI program.
* Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner compliant with ISO 9001 standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required
* Industrial Electrician Level 1 to 4 required
* Previous shop experience required
* Knowledge of work and safety regulations
* Other combinations of education, experience, knowledge, and skills will be considered
* Consideration may be given to someone with an electrical or electronic technology diploma, combined with 3 to 4 years’ experience in an industrial electrical environment
APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM:
The Company will maintain the employee’s wage while they are attending school (based on 40 hours per week). The Company will cover costs of required books and tuition for full Apprenticeship Training Program. For Electricians studying in The Pas, the Company will cover accommodations to a maximum of $450 per month and travel (mileage) expenses at Company current published rate of expenses for the initial and final return trip home for the duration of the training period. The Company will also cover four (4) return trips during the study period in The Pas. Electrical Apprentices will progress through the merit levels based on levels of schooling not annual progression.
Upon completion of the Apprenticeship Program the employee must complete three (3) years of service with the Company (from date of receiving Journeyman Red Seal
Certification). Failure to meet this requirement will result in the employee having to repay any/all topped up wages, tuition, books and accommodations while attending school, based on a monthly proration.
Candidates must be actively registered with the Manitoba Apprenticeship Board and follow all rules and regulations of the program. Failure to successfully complete the program will result in the employee being removed from the classification.
